Andrew de Freitas, born in 1986 in Aotearoa (New Zealand), is the son of immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago. He studied Art and Philosophy at the University of Auckland.

His work has been featured in exhibitions in Beijing and Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. Group exhibitions and display programs include venues such as the Collectible Fair in New York, Mendes Wood DM’s Archipelago Space in Georgetown (NY), Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, Sishang Art Museum in Beijing, Marli Matsumoto Gallery in São Paulo, Galerie Parisa Kind in Frankfurt am Main, Videobrasil in São Paulo, Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main, École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy, and Slade School of Fine Art in London.

Freitas employs a wide range of tools and production processes, layering and intertwining them. His studio practice has developed in diverse contexts and is also sustained through manufacturing services for other artists, architects, as well as for film and theater.

In 2021, Freitas founded the Ateliê Arte de Obra as an extension of his art and construction practices, aiming to equip and maintain a space for high-quality, distinctive projects. The focus is on enriching everyday experiences with objects and images. The studio team currently includes Jarbas da Costa de Carvalho and Manoel Fernandes Rocha.
